I love this concept. I like to write short all the time. I have recently started getting into novellas. However, one issue is that they can go on for too long as far as the series are concerned (ex: 20 books; which could be 5 books!).

Fantastic, Mary. My current writing is an actual legal case (on behalf of the environment and health). I had a sense that some of the paragraphs could be more precise, yet couldn't nail what to do about it. You've articulated the issue, and offered practical solutions. Many thanks.

I agree that practicing writing flash fiction helps writing a novel. The brevity required to tell a story well in less than 1000 words trains the creative process when revising scenes in a novel. My first flash was published last week by DarkWinter Lit and the comment I heard from readers most frequently was “I wanted more.”

As I begin a week attending a novel retreat I will do my best to keep your suggestions in mind.

BTW another excellent flash writer/teacher is Tommy Dean.
